4 Things To Do / Know After Completing The Kolbe Index

We’ve all done it.

Pick a date on the calendar, purchase new gym clothes, take before pictures, and create a fashionably healthy meal plan to follow over the next 90 days.

The problem: we don’t always commit.

In the same way, many professionals take assessments but don’t have the motivation or understanding to implement their newfound knowledge. In this blog we’ll be looking at 4 key insights you should do / know after taking a personal assessment; specifically after taking the Kolbe A™ Index.

It’s a process

As a professional you should understand that taking the Kolbe A™ Index is just the first step; you’re not going to reach higher levels of productivity upon completion. Too often we let our excitement of new personal understanding burn fast, and we miss out (burn out) before the actual implementation phase. As I work with individuals and teams, one of the first things I provide is a framework and understanding, but that is coupled with the perspective that it will take some time and effort to implement. Remember, it’s a process.

There isn’t a “one size fits all” guide

The second thing to note is that everyone’s process will be different. If you remember a blog I wrote a while back called “Instincts have implications,” we identified the differences that the Kolbe A™ Index will uncover for each individual. Specifically, the four Kolbe Action Modes™ reveal how you gather & share information, how you organize, how you deal with risk & uncertainty, and how you handle space & intangibles. As you can imagine, there are a wide variety of answers to these questions, and no person - or team - is the same. Thus, be cautious of one size fits all guides, especially how they relate to you as an individual.

Answers & solutions are different

In terms of taking any assessment (Kolbe and the like), too often I see professionals confuse answers with solutions. The real work happens after the results are delivered, yet it’s often easy to replace what we should do with what we’ve just learned. What’s important to remember is this:

Answers provide definition while solutions tend to refine what’s already been defined.

When it comes to your assessment, get beyond the answers. That’s where true power and transformation are found; both personally and professionally.

Ask these questions

To help you get beyond the answers, I recommend that you ask yourself the following questions. These questions will help you shape your answers into solutions (or at least provide clarity on what you still need to learn). The questions include:

  • What are my core takeaways from the assessment?

  • What changes will I make ( personally & professionally) so I am more aligned with my results?

  • How will I hold myself accountable for sticking to these changes?

  • What questions do I still have about my results (list out all questions)?

Much like exercising and eating healthy, implementing your Kolbe results will take time, effort, and commitment. To get the most out of this assessment (and others like it), be sure to follow through with the 4 insights above.

Also, I realize that 4 insights alone can’t answer all of your questions. Thus, if you’d like to go even deeper, feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email. I’d love to discuss how I work with individuals like you.
