KolbeCon 2022: Insights and Key Moments
Recently, I attended KolbeCon: a Conative Experience. This 2-day conference was held in Phoenix, Arizona and featured the founder of Kolbe Wisdom, Kathy Kolbe, along with many other experts in the Kolbe field. After two years without meeting in person, it felt great to be back together. While virtual sessions serve an important purpose in our world, there is nothing like being in the same space to share stories, learn new findings, and be reminded why you do this work in the first place.
Being in a different space also allowed me to think about my work with a new lens. I started drawing connections between the Kolbe Index results and trust. I started thinking about the lack of trust in today’s world, and the Kolbe A™ Index is a way to get a little bit of that trust back.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
Recognition Brings Rejuvenation
During KolbeCon, I was honored to be one of two people who received recognition for administering over 5,000 Kolbe A™ Indexes. To help you understand why this award was such an honor for me, many Kolbe Certified Consultants typically only administer 100-500 Indexes throughout their tenure.
Some people would see this recognition as having arrived at their destination. They’ve made their goal, and now they can relax.
But not me.
This recognition rejuvenated me. It reminded me just how much I know and can help people with the Kolbe System. It reminded me that my commitment to Kolbe pays off, and it helped resolidified my commitment to the brand I’ve worked so hard to create.
I have more fire and passion for this work than ever before, and I’m so excited for this next step on the journey.
Building Trust
One of my biggest “a-has” from KolbeCon was the connection between trust and Kolbe System™.
In today’s world information, images, data, and everything else can be so easily manipulated, it’s hard to have trust in anything. People and organizations are constantly trying to manipulate whatever they can to create a specific view or perspective.
The plethora of personality tests on the market today work the same way. They provide you with a snapshot of the specific information they’ve gathered and keep your results very surface level.
In addition, most personality tests can be manipulated by the test take or the administrator to receive the desired results. Our culture deems certain personality traits “good” and others “bad”. Some personality tests are so incredibly easy to trick, the test taker can pick and choose the result they want to get, instead of receiving a true look at who you are.
Kolbe is different. The Kolbe A™ Index doesn’t look at your personality that can change throughout your lifetime; it relies on your instincts. And your instincts do not change.
Trusting Your Instincts
Our culture has convinced us our instincts are bad and need to be corralled into behaving the “right” way. Culture has taught us we have less worth if our brains don’t come up with “the next best thing”.
The Kolbe A™ Index gives us permission to rely on our instincts again. Your instincts give you a better understanding of what you need to be successful and how to work successfully with those around you.
